Amazing Days

This is just too weird not to share. Apparently, this woman is having two kids at once who are not twins.

This story speaks for itself so I have a hard time adding commentary, let me quickly just say that I love the expert they brought in. She was so perky!
Anyway, a real update is coming your way soon.

Are My Beliefs Making Room For God?

In the math community there are millennium questions. Basically these so far unsolved equations that have been around for ages. Christianity has its own versions. These debates have likely been going on since Christianity existed. Today I found myself trying to grasp the answer to a question people a lot smarter than me never could--its something we young adults try once in a while when we start feeling too big for our britches. Of course, I came to not. In fact, the only thing I got out of the whole experiment was a headache and one soft whispered word in my brain. A prodding of the holy spirit or instinctive wisdom--though I suspicion those are the same thing--I couldn't tell you. All I know is this very clear warning bell rang in my head. "Are your beliefs making room for God?" It kind of hit me that a lot of Christians make the bible fit what we want to believe. I've heard people argue every form of thought from the same verse, but how often do we actually let God shape our beliefs instead of the other way around? I don't pretend I have the answers, and sometimes doubt creeps in. However, the answer Job got rings true to me.

Job 40: 2
“Do you still want to argue with the Almighty?
You are God’s critic, but do you have the answers?”

Then he goes on to say (40: 7)

“Brace yourself like a man,
because I have some questions for you,
and you must answer them."

I challenge you to go read the rest of chapter 40, then on to 41. The sum of it is this. We weren't there when God made everything, but he is just and loving. He is big enough to handle our questions but that doesn't mean we will ever have all the answers. Sometimes, knowing God has to be enough.

“I know that you can do anything,
and no one can stop you.
You asked, ‘Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorance?’
It is I—and I was talking about things I knew nothing about,
things far too wonderful for me." -Job 42: 2-3

so I guess, 42 really is the answer to life, the universe, and everything. Who knew?

Until next time

A little Babbling to Boot

Hey Friends,
Still feeling pretty well sick and to occupy myself I've been watching The Listener. This was a show recently (and sadly) canceled by NBC. While I can kind of understand the cancellation, there are many many smarter things to watch, this show has managed to captivate me. I'll be the first to admit it's campy and a few of the episodes could have been better but there are few shows that can get me to suspend my belief like this one. Somehow the Listener just makes it work. The filler episodes are a bit obvious but when the meat of the story comes in (about episode 6) everything goes from good and campy to great and compelling.

So, here are the ten reason some other station should pick up this piece of wonder.

10. He's an EMT. In a world where Doctors are over done to death, EMTs just rock on TV

9. Even when the plots are a stretch the characters remain believable and more importantly, lovable. The actor is excellent.

8. I don't actually hate Charlie. haha. I actually really like her character but I'm just shocked I don't hate her. I'm really sick of the skeptical detective chick but she actually pulls it off.

7. Toby is a really smart guy, who is about the most clueless thing I have ever seen. In fact, it shocks me that he hasn't stepped in front of a bus yet. I find myself torn between thinking he's a genius and thinking he's as dumb as a box of rocks. It's very endearing.

6. The bromance (sorry for those sick of the term it just fits) between Toby and Oz is so adorable. Honestly, who wouldn't want a friend like Oz? Finds out he's a telepath? No problem. Gets in trouble because he's worried about Toby's sanity? No big.

5. Toby and Ray, are also just so fun to watch. Ray reminds me of my own mentor, incredibly smart and just a little bit creepy haha

4. It's so campy it's great! Honestly, it's the only show I've ever watched that can suspend your belief this much.

3. It's like jumping into Kyle XY once they hit their stride, while also being Heroes if Peter was the only character. Which for those who know what I mean, will understand how awesome that is.

2. Every episode screams for a fanfic. Seriously, if you can get through an episode of the Listener without a least one plot bunny attacking you...then you're clearly not a fangirl haha

1. Toby Logan is clearly Chuck Norris's illegitimate child. He runs foolhardy into situations he really should not live through and comes out unscratched. He fought off an armed thug with a friggin golf club! He faced a homicidal unstable sociopath and the sociopath ran the other way.

Conclusion. Go watch it! I will do you one better...here it is

So today is a sick day, which brings up my newest topic. It occured to me that something is really wrong when I do not mind getting sick because it means I get some R&R for a change. I use to be a person who knew how to take it easy, but since my grandmother died early this summer I seem to be on a marathon run. Switching from sick bed virgil, to funeral and all things connected, to finishing up my summer work and then school. It seems like I've been going full blast for so long that when I realized I was sick last night--some crazy hour of the night--it didn't bother me. My first thought was "Oh nice, I can catch my breath."
It seems like a lot of us have this problem anymore. We get so caught up in chasing the promotion, rocking the grades, doing something big that we forget to settle down and just enjoy life once in a while.
Today I have barely got out of bed. I've watched episodes of the Listener, chatted on IM and talked--well really was talked at mostly because of my cold not giving me much in the way of verbal skills--by an awesome friend. I can barely breath through congestion, but I've had an incredibly fun day.
So, my percription for you, my fair readers, is kick back a bit. The world, and all the stress, will still be there when you get back.

Tata!

Ladies and Gents, I Present Taylor Swift and Kanye

I'm sure everyone has heard the big news of the week coming from the VMA awards, but in the rare case you haven't--Kayne West got on the stage while Taylor Swift was accepting her award and stole the mic. He preceeded to explain that Beyonce deserved the award more.

This is hardly the first time Kayne West has made a scene at an award show, but this has blown up in his face far more. Kayne proved that he is no gentlemen, and I think the backlash is very deserving. However, instead of focusing on him I want to talk about Taylor Swift and Beyonce.
The news is always full of actors, singers and preformers of all kinds going off or having meltdowns; so with this rare and beautiful potrayal of what it means to be a lady right here in our faces it's time to take a look.

I think Jane Austen would have been proud of Beyonce's gentlelady display at the VMAs.

Beyonce shined by bringing Taylor up to finish her speech. That right there is class.

Beyonce made no offense, and she certainly did not know Kanye was going to do that, but she reached out to the obviously upset Taylor and turned what could have been a horrible experience into a beautiful and memorable one.
Taylor also needs to be commended. She handled the uncalled for offense with serenity. There were no emotional breakdowns--though I would not have faulted her a few tears because I'm not sure I could have been as classy in her stead. In interviews following the event Swift was thankful for the support shown her by Beyonce and others behind the curtain. Her words about Kanye were deliberate and careful, stating that she did not want to start anything with him.
Beyonce showed kindness and class, going the extra mile. Taylor Swift showed grace under fire. Ladies, there is so much we can learn from them.
Finally, I will add that Kanye has apologized three times, and though most of us wouldn't mind hearing a few more apologies, he said on the Jay Leno premier that he is going to take time off to think. I commend this desicion and simply want to add that it wouldn't hurt if he read some Jane Austen while he was gone, spesifically Sense and Senibility. However, if he sticks to this claim and actually does spend some time in soul reflection then there is a chance for him yet.

Until next time

I feel as if I was born in the wrong era

This is my first blog but instead of talking about the things I like and that yadda yadda, I'm going to jump right into topics.
I feel like I was born in the wrong era. This is not a new age statement or some emo pop song, I swear. Its just the fact that I've been reading Jane Austen books and watching the Horatio Hornblower mini-series. Honestly, even with all the lack of freedoms (which I'm very grateful for) and the horrible medical conditions there are things back in that time I miss. Honor was respected above all else, and expected not just an anomoly that rare few ever have. There were scum bags just like there are now but there were also gentlemen. How many girls have read Austen's Sense and Sensibility and longed for a guy like Colonel Brandon? Where are the gentlemen these days? I've met a few but they seem the exception instead of the rule. I'm so proud of my dear cousins, a whole gaggle of boys who know what it means to be a gentleman. My young cousin, who is not even a preteen yet, pulled out a chair for me and held the door for me. Sadly, this behavior shocked me. I see it so rarely.
Think about a world where we have more gentlemen? Can you imagine it? Can you imagine how different the family structure would be if Dad's came home from work and spent it just talking to their kids instead of watching the game? Can you imagine a world where boyfriends remember what chilvary is?
I was walking through the mall the other day and there was this girl. She was pretty, and shapely in all the right places. She was also wearing a very adorable skirt. Some food of some sort had gotten on it, on her rear actually. Her boyfriend was there and she was wiping off her butt and asking if she got it. My mind, which I hope comes from being a writer but probably has its grounds in being a bit cynical at times, instantly saw how this could turn out. Here it was the chance most guys long for. A legitament not slap worthy reason to touch her butt, and what happened? He didn't. Instead he simply said she had gotten it only. I was so impressed that I felt at that moment like applauding (I didn't because geez that would have been rude right? haha.) How many guys would have done the same?
I'm not writing this to call guys stupid or say how horrible they are. I'm a normal girl, and I like guys. Not afraid to admit it. I dream that one day my own Colonel Brandon will read poetry at my side. I suggest, no I compell, guys to remember the gentlemen of yester year. You want to be attractive to a girl? How about instead of an extra ounce of gel you just open the door for her. How bout you compliment what's in her head instead of what's on her shirt?
And ladies, we could all use a lesson from Austen too...but that is a blog for another time.
